BACKGROUND
On 26 November 2020, the Minister of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Dr Blade Nzimande, held a media briefing focusing on the PSET system developments and the 2020 national list of occupations in high demand (OIHD).
At the end of the briefing, Dr Nzimande formally published Government Gazette no.43937 containing the highly anticipated list of OIHD. The gazette outlines the procedures followed to promulgate the list and gives special mention to the organisations who were consulted in the process, including Xpatweb.
Xpatweb formed part of a group of 11 organisations who were tasked with verifying the list of OIHD as seen below in Section 4.4 of the Government Gazette.
The list of OIHD will now be used as input towards the Department of Home Affairs’ (DHA) highly anticipated Critical Skills List, which will no doubt more accurately reflect the needs of the employers.

2020 CRITICAL SKILLS SURVEY
Xpatweb, together with the DHET and DHA, would like to urge you to provide your input If you have not yet participated in our annual Critical Skills Survey.
We recognise your time is precious and we want to make it count. By participating you will not only receive an early access in-depth report of the results, but you will also be helping to shape Immigration Law in South Africa.
The results of the survey will be used to provide input to DHA’s upcoming Critical Skills list.
