THE DEPARTMENT OF HOME AFFAIRS GAZETTES NEW IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS

These new Regulations were first published for comment on 8 February and comes after many proposals made for the implementation and most recently suggestions made in the Vulindlela Report to support the introduction. It aims to attract remote workers to South Africa and boost the country’s economy. Outlined within Section 11(2) of the Immigration Act, the Remote Work Visa is tailored for high earning individuals, engaging in remote work.

WHO NEEDS A REMOTE WORK VISA

Digital Nomad

Digital nomads are individuals who work remotely and have the flexibility to travel and live in different locations. The Remote Work Visa allows them to stay longer than the typical 90-day tourist visa and provides legal authorisation to work remotely for a foreign employer while residing in South Africa.

Skilled Professionals

Skilled professionals, such as software developers, designers, consultants, and other knowledgeable workers. Foreign nationals who have job opportunities with companies outside of South Africa but prefer to work remotely.
